It was originally when Lucy worked at Starbucks that she noticed Darren. He would come in every morning, order his usual drink and shyly smile at her. He was polite and always said please and thank you, she remembers, and that goes a long way in her book. The thing she liked about him was that he was warm, but not so forward that he’d ask her out right there at the espresso counter.
Luckily for Lucy, her life took a turn not unlike in the John Cusack movie “Serendipity,” because long after their Starbucks interactions were over, Darren moved into Lucy’s apartment complex and one day, recognizing her high-pitched voice near the pool, struck up a conversation. At their wedding last month, Lucy and Darren’s friends and siblings got up a toasted them, recalling what a great match they’d been from the start and how sweet they were to each other. Lucy’s sister Millie said she had been pulling for Darren since the early days at their apartment complex, inviting him along on Lucy’s behalf and making sure her sister ended up with him.

Lucy and Darren were married at the Holy Rosary Church in NE Portland on an unexpectedly sunny January Saturday. Their family and friends were there to support them, and you could tell there were huge waves of happiness, joy and respect for these two from their guests.

Lucy’s hair and makeup was done by the amazingly talented Jennifer Walker of Face Body Beauty. It is always a joy to work together with her.

Congratulations, Lucy and Darren! It was such a joy to be there on your big day and to watch you surrounded by your loving families and friends.
