Wedding: Emily & Nick, Part one

Weddings

September 29th, 2010

I just love classic weddings. Emily and Nick’s Seattle wedding was just that — very classic. They got married at Cedarbrook Lodge in August, and everything was a class act, from the gorgeous champagne-colored bridesmaid dresses to the elegant flowers and lovely reception.

This was a fantastic hotel — I’d love to stay there sometime!

Loved her blue shoes! They were her “something blue,” although I think few people actually got a glance at them under her gorgeous gown.

A trio played ceremony music, which brought Emily down the aisle as the sun peeked out. It was a really perfect day for a wedding — not too hot, but still sunny.

More from this gorgeous classic wedding on Wednesday!

Sara Gray Photography loves KISS Books!

Products

September 27th, 2010

I love this time of year, because it’s the time of year that I get to see the final product of all my work on wedding days in the format of wedding albums. I love my wedding albums — I print through a company called KISS Wedding Books, and they are really amazing books.

I wanted to share how much I love these KISS books, and show you a few that I’ve received lately. I love the vibrant colors of the books, the bright pop of colors inside the books with their great printing and their durability.

Thanks, KISS, for making me look good!

Wedding: Jessie & Adam, Part three

Weddings

September 24th, 2010

One thing I loved about Jessie and Adam’s wedding was the focus on everyone enjoying themselves, catching up, eating great food and spending time together. Jessie and Adam live a ways from their families, since Adam’s in graduate school, so it was clearly a great time for their families to be together.

This is the whole group watching a slideshow of Jessie and Adam’s journey, which has been a long one — they met in junior high for the first time.

Wedding pie! Some of the pie was made from loganberries grown right on the property. I had pie in place of cake at my wedding, so I felt like Adam & Jessie were kindred spirits of ours (or at least kindred pie lovers).

Congratulations, Jessie and Adam! I had an amazing time at your wedding, surrounded by people who love you and are happy for you and proud of you. I wish you years of happiness and adventures!

Wedding: Jessie & Adam, Part two

Weddings

September 22nd, 2010

Greenbank Farm was totally breathtaking (I have to admit, this was my first time ever to Whidbey Island, and I was stunned). From the hill where Jessie and Adam had their ceremony, you could see the Puget Sound on both sides of the island.

Jessie and Adam were so thoughtful when they planned their wedding — one of my favorite ideas they had was to have their seven best friends ordained and perform the ceremony together. It was really touching because those were the people who knew them the best, and the people who officially married them.

Jessie made 100 of these glasses from recycled beer and wine bottles for all her guests, and etched their names into the sides. What an amazing DIY project!

There were alpacas, too! They came to the wedding site with their 4-H handlers and did agility drills for wedding guests. They even had color-coordinating bows around their necks.

More on Friday!

Jessie and Adam. Whidbey Island. It was such a fantastic wedding. Of course, I started off in a fantastic mood because we got to ride the ferry across the Puget Sound to start the day, which just made the day seem like it was going to be a special one. Huge thanks to Kim Dunlap for assisting me and second-shooting during this one!

Jessie and Adam got married at Greenbank Farm on Whidbey Island, which was such a perfect place for them. They have a pie cafe right on site, plus a wine shop and some other shops. The grounds were just amazing.

Jessie’s bouquet (above) was made with love by Tracy from FarmHouse Flowers — everything in the bouquet came from the island and it was even tied with repurposed ribbon that Tracy found at a thrift store. It was important to Jessie that all the flowers should be organic and local, and Tracy was so helpful in this.

I love how this moment from Jessie and Adam’s first look (on a little stone bridge!) echoes the photo below, which is a detail of their rings atop a figurine that Jessie bought to commemorate the two of them moving in together a couple of years ago. It’s so them.

I’ll be sharing more from Jessie & Adam’s eco-friendly island wedding throughout the week!

Happy Birthday to Me!

My Life

September 13th, 2010

I always feel a little self-indulgent blogging about my own birthday on my birthday,  but it’s my birthday — if not today, then when?

I’m excited to have dinner with Eric tonight for the big day (I’m 27!). I’m still right in the midst of my fun wedding season, so there’s going to be fantastic weddings on the blog from now until after Thanksgiving. I’m so excited about this year and all the fun couples I’ve been able to work with.

And because posts are better with pictures, here’s one of my sisters and I celebrating last night (my younger sister Emily’s birthday is tomorrow, so it was a celebration for us both. It’s always been that way.)

And our yummy birthday cake from Baker & Spice:

Wedding: Morgan & Brandon, Part Three

Weddings

September 10th, 2010

Moving on to Morgan & Brandon’s reception, there was more live music and merriment to be had. While everyone got settled, we snuck away for more photos.

Oh. Did I mention the blue Manolos? There were definitely blue Manolos.

Laura and Kelly are such good friends to Morgan, and they were a blast to hang with on the big day.

Same totally goes for these guys, Casey and Drew. They also brought the handsome for their portraits.

This was the most fun I’d had doing wedding party portraits for a long time! Talk about texture in the Pearl District! We only had to walk a few steps for all this color and excitement.

As if all this magic hasn’t been enough, when we got back to the reception, there was the dessert. Prepared by Pix Patisserie in Portland, there were eight kinds of dessert (not including their gorgeous yellow wedding cake, center below). I think pretty much everyone at this wedding was in complete heaven.

Morgan and Brandon, congratulations! It has been absolutely amazing working with the two of you and I wish you all the happiness and love in the world!

Wedding: Morgan & Brandon, Part Two

Weddings

September 8th, 2010

Every detail on Morgan & Brandon’s wedding day was planned and intentional, from the centerpieces Morgan designed to her wedding invitations, which she also designed (she’s a graphic designer, so she’s got an eye for these things).

I think one of my very favorite parts of this wedding was the live music. Morgan and Brandon had ukelele music during their ceremony, and Morgan walked down the aisle to “What a Wonderful World/Somewhere over the Rainbow.”

You can tell a lot about people by their friends and the people they surround themselves with, and Morgan and Brandon’s wedding guests were some of the sweetest people, who only had great things to say about the couple.

Another clever touch: The couple’s favors were these tiny cactus plants with different inspiring words stuck in them. For scale, the pots were about two inches across!

There are more fun photos from Morgan & Brandon’s wedding to come, including some wedding party portraits and the most amazing dessert spread I’ve ever laid my eyes on.
